Floating shelves, bathroom vanity, mantel, and desks are all supported by the Free Hanging Shelf Bracket. This bracket is the perfect choice for having a concealed bracket, as it is mounted directly to the studs inside your wall before the sheetrock goes up.
It is important that the Free Hanging Shelf Bracket be mounted into wood studs to support the weight of the shelf, etc. We recommend spacing 16 – 20 inches for maximum protection.
This bracket is designed to be mounted into studs before the sheetrock or covering boards go up.
How to determine what size bracket:
This bracket will be mounted into the wooden wall studs before the sheetrock or covering board is put in place. The amount inside the wall should be approximately 3 inches. Measure the length of the shelf or countertop you want to install; in this example it will be 18 inches. Subtract 3 inches.  This subtraction is to stay away from the outer edge of the shelf or countertop, which is usually 2-4 inches. Add 3 inches for the length that is inside the wall. Our final measurement is 18 inches. When mounted it will have a 3-inch overhang, which is the desired amount.
