One of the outstanding characteristics of Honda engineering is its rigorous attention to detail. This characteristic is abundantly evident in the instrument panel of the new Honda Accord CVCC.®
The Accord’s remarkable layout of instruments features what last August’s Road Test Magazine called a “space-age warning light system".
The lights across the top of the panel tell you about seat belts, brake fluid level or parking brake, oil pressure, electrical charge system, choke, headlight high beam, and fuel. This last indicator lights up when the gas tank level gets down to about 2.5 gallons.
The diagram of the car warns you if either door or the rear hatch
is not securely latched. It also lets you know if either brake light is out. First, the yellow master warning light goes on, accompanied
by a buzzer. After about six seconds the master light goes off and the trouble spot is indicated with a red light that says “door," “tail gate,” or “brake lamp,” and with a red marker that lights up on the diagram.
But that’s not all. There are three green indicators, one each for tire rotation, engine change, and oil filter change. Under normal driving, just before maintenance is due for any of the three, the appropriate square turns
yellow. When maintenance is overdue, the square turns red. To reset to green, insert the ignition key in a slot under the appropriate indicator.
